When I sat in a bookstore with a coffee thinking about my blog and what to do next. I wished I had a way to share my fiction writing. Then I thought why not do a Fictional Friday in my blog? Then I can share scenes I’ve written and enjoyed with others. Segments of my writing will at least be seen. HOPEFULLY I entertain someone for a moment and they take the time to tell me so, maybe even say what they enjoyed most.
I want to be a professional writer but I finally faced one thing – I don’t have it in me to schmooze and schlep I just don’t. That doesn’t stop me from playing with ideas. From having written long involved stories. Or still enjoy plotting, planning, and writing whole novel tales that I share privately with those interested. I need an agent who is willing to take what I had them and do the schmooze and schlep for me. I’ve never been a sales person of anything especially myself. I know if I’m selling myself I’m selling a flawed product. I don’t have it in me to do what it takes to get an agent – money to go around and schmooze at conferences, cold mail which is a rare bird now I think almost as rare as a Cebu Flowerpecker (a real bird look it up), open calls are even rarer these days than the flowerpecker. I still haven’t embraced self publishing for the reasons above and I can’t get the distaste of vanity press out of my mind. Oh and the money thing, no I don’t want to pay to publish. Sorry, I’ll just sit on it first.
So here every Friday I’ll share snippets of work that might be years old or might be a recent piece. It could be part of a big story or just a scene or result of a writing prompt. What ever it is I’ll do my best tell you all you need to know to enjoy the scene. When it comes from big stories might not be all that is going on but a ‘previously on’ summary to let you jump into a world and live for a moment.
Who knows what will come of this. At least I get some of my stuff out there and maybe a handful more of people read it. At fantastical fantasy best – an agent reads something they like, sign me and I’m on my way to being the next Stephen King. I know pipe dream but a girl can have wild fantasies and my Fictional Fridays will prove mine.
